So today I was informed that a statement I make every Tuesday is not wanted in a certain place of the internet.
Since early 2025 (Episode 240, 22nd Jan 2025 to be exactly) my streaming scroll text contained the phrase
FUCK TRUMP
And of course that's also in my VoDs then. Usually I was posting that VoD link in said "certain place of the internet". And nobody cared. Until yesterday when someone from the folk who own "certain place of the internet" was made aware of it.
Since they are "deliberately apolitical" for business reasons they feel the need to not have it. I was also informed that all VoD links from Episode 240 and up will be purged from the site.
Now here is my dilemma. I stand by my statement. But since I am not the only one affected by this I feel responsible towards people who helped me make my stream the happy place it is currently. For me it's a hobby and I could just not do it any more and use the time differently. But for them their potential livelihood could be at stake. And that's not my decision to make.
And from a pure business standpoint I do get the argument. But at what point will you stop selling your beliefs, integrity and values? For me this is a case of: fine, then you'll not get anything from me any more.
I will stand by my statement.
The saddest part of it? The owners of that "certain place of the internet" also have stakes within other companies and as much as I was looking forward to some product of theirs that I just got: I can't bring myself to enjoy that right now. Which again is unfair to the people who made it and potentially are totally fine with my statement.
So here I am. Rambling into the void that is my forum to get this off my chest. For the coming days I will be a bit less active in that "certain place of the internet". Not only because of today but also because the place is currently fighting some big technical debt. It's borked.
If you read this far: Thank you.
If you're wondering why I'm not naming names: there is livelihoods of others involved. But I'm pretty sure you'll figure it out. It's not rocket science.
Take care and stay vigilant!
PS: This just shows me once again that companies can't be your friends. Friendships ends where money begins. That doesn't mean you can be friends with 100% of the staff of a company but a company it self as an entity can't be your friend because it's only want is money. If company staff decides to go against that mantra to stay morally true to themselves the company will suffer for it in our current system of capitalism.
