Yes, I know this might be a hot topic or even click baity and it will get very ranty but hear me out. Or don't. I'm just an article on the internet.
I don't dislike the tech that is 3D printing. I find it fascinating that we are now able to print spare parts for machines that are hard to come by. Cogs, plastic lids, battery holders etc. That's all grand.
I also don't mind when people use it in our hobby as an aid to get things done more quickly or in a more repeatable fashion.
As long as they take their time and make it look good.
And at this point in the argument I really get annoyed with some of the folks using 3D printing in our hobby. It feels like it doesn't matter how things look as long as it's "on the table" and they can claim a "look at all my terrain" post.
Fine, you printed walls. That should be smooth because they are steel. But in your haste you made them look like badly cast concrete yet you paint it like steel. Your "miniature" looks like a stack of cardboard cut offs.
YOU BELL END PRINTED A FUCKING MOUNTAIN FACE! Yes, I have seen people use a filament printer to print a part of a mountain with an entrance to a dwarven mine that was as high as it was wide. Never mind the stone pillars that should be smooth and not look like something ribbed for her pleasure but fucking rocks with printlines? And then those kind of people don't even care painting their "terrain". Just shit some filament on the table and call it a day.
Yes, perfect it the enemy of "done" but holy hell there is a difference between a raw spool of filament on the table and a bit of work put into your printing after the fact.
I fell it is disrespectful towards all other people in the hobby that really take their time to make the tables look nice. No, I don't want everybody to go full Golden Demon on their terrain but for the love of Nuffle have some pride in your hobby. Or just buy pre made terrain.
